In our previous report, we informed you that Samsung would publicly disclose the results of their investigation into the Galaxy Note 7 on January 23rd. Today, an early report from the Wall Street Journal sheds light on the primary factors that Samsung will attribute the blame to. The first factor is the irregular size of the batteries used, while the second is related to manufacturing flaws in the final product.
To properly identify the root causes that led to the discontinuation of the Galaxy Note 7, which prompted a global recall, Samsung enlisted the assistance of three independent firms specializing in quality control and supply-chain analysis. This demonstrates the company’s commitment to identifying and resolving the issues. The investigation agencies have identified two key issues that resulted in the overheating and subsequent explosions of the Galaxy Note 7.
New Note 7 Battery Introduced Galaxy Note 7 Disaster
Samsung sourced batteries for the Galaxy Note 7 from two different manufacturers, namely Samsung SDI and Amperex Technology. Initially, when the issue arose, Samsung believed the problem lay with the batteries supplied by Samsung SDI, as they did not fit correctly in the device. Consequently, devices equipped with the SDI battery were recalled, spurring Amperex Technology to manufacture additional batteries to meet demand.
Furthermore, to ensure an ample supply of devices in the market, Samsung hastened the manufacturing process. Unfortunately, this rush resulted in inadequate time for thorough checks and quality testing, leading to unidentified manufacturing faults.
Undoubtedly, the Galaxy Note 7 boasted impressive features, but in their pursuit of a competitive edge over rivals, Samsung faced challenges maintaining product quality. This may explain the delayed release of the Galaxy S8, as the flagship S-series is typically unveiled at the MWC in February. However, this time, the launch is scheduled for March 29th. For more insights into the investigation, Samsung will hold a press conference on January 23rd.
